Parallel Play

A gathering place for busy intuitives and mystics who want to create as a spiritual practice.

Are you struggling to honor your creative practice?

You’re not alone. GO and DO are familiar. We’re taught to hustle. From social media to our work and life, the focus is on performance and product. Choosing the slow pace of creativity and soul care requires intention and presence.

Makers gonna make. Is your creative life oxygen for your soul? But you’re not breathing? I’ve been there. Every season of life has barriers and challenges to honoring creative practice. I see you. Parallel Play holds the time and space for your practice.

“The harder you chase something, the faster you go and the less you’re able to let life meet life. If you’re having difficulty coming up with new ideas, then slow down…Creativity exists in the present moment. You can’t find it anywhere else.”

~Natalie Goldberg, author

What is Parallel Play?

Parallel Play is a term used to describe the behavior of young children who play alongside each other. It bridges the gap between solitary play and cooperative play. In the context of creative work, it refers to individuals working independently in a shared space or community.

Our purpose is connection and inspiration.

I know what it’s like to try and keep a creative practice alive in isolation. My creative life moved from survival to vibrant when I connected with other writers and makers. The muse visits when I create a predictable, safe space for my writing and painting. Is your creativity hit or miss? Or has it fallen off the calendar altogether? Small bites of habit and ritual are the medicine you need.

Community involvement helps you stay motivated and accountable. When others know your goals and progress, it can create a sense of responsibility and drive to remain present.

Finally, a community can offer collaboration, learning, and support opportunities. By sharing knowledge and resources, individuals can develop new skills and create even more innovative work.

*NOTE: You are not required to be a Soul Cartography student to attend although the foundation would be helpful.

"In order to have a real relationship with our creativity, we must take the time and care to cultivate it. Our creativity will use this time to confront us, to confide in us, to bond with us, and to plan."

How Does It Work?

We create the time-space container. You honor your practice.

There are two versions:

Digital

  • Maker’s Circle meetings every Wednesday. One Wednesday is dedicated to the Meet My Friends salon, an opportunity to hear from other creators about their process and purpose and how spirituality is woven into their practice. There will be a Q&A for each Meet My Friends salon.
  • Monthly themed prompts in the form of a downloadable zine
  • A private community platform for sharing posts, questions, and process videos.

Analogue

  • All the features of Digital
  • Monthly snail mail packages from me containing handmade collage papers, book pages, ephemera, and photos from my studio stash.
  • The monthly process video will include projects and pages using these bespoke materials.

"We can never eliminate Resistance. It will never go away. But we can outsmart it, and we can enlist allies that are as powerful as it is."

FAQ

The Maker’s Circle meetings are focused on our monthly theme with ideas for how we can grow in self-awareness and move deeper into our creative process. The Maker’s Circle meetings are different from the Meet My Friends Salons.

I will host a guest creative who will teach us about their process and ways we can grow as individuals through their practice and process. We will also learn how they weave spirituality into their practice. Q&A time will be made available for attendees.

Great question. Maker’s Circle meets live every Wednesday at 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm EST.
